Discomfort

for September 13, 2023

Whenever we are faced with a hard to imagine situation we can say “What if?” Suspend our disbelief for a moment. How would it be if “X” were true?
Suppose it is not hard to imagine but we feel very uncomfortable or even pain? It may benefit us to determine why we feel this way.
Does the new idea contradict current belief? Is it opposed to everything we hold dear? Does accepting the new thought translate into what we previously thought “is wrong”? These are all good reasons for being uncomfortable. However, pain and discomfort are not good reasons for not accepting what is true.
There are times throughout history when what the majority thought to be true has been incorrect.
Presently, for example, there is much discussion about “climate change”. Climate is always changing. This is a reason it is a topic of polite conversation among strangers. Knowing basic facts may help to understand the changes.
Earth, like us, is physically electro magnetic. At the present time, her magnetic field is low. This results in a weaker atmosphere which directly affects how much the sun warms the Earth’s surface on direct exposure. We are now therefore experiencing warmer days and cooler nights. The Earth, however, is currently in a colder phase which she goes through every so often. A thinner atmosphere also affects the amount of oxygen and water vapor it contains. We are adapting. We are learning to operate as if we live on a mountain top. We don’t need to know this to survive. We adjust. Slowly.
There are some, however, who wish to control our perceptions and knowledge for their own benefit (often financial) by manipulating the information available. This may upset many as some suggested solutions may be harmful.
The scheme, e.g., to impose a carbon tax is a money making venture. However, reducing atmospheric carbon below a certain level is suicidal for Earth and those dwelling with her. Carbon is required for photosynthesis which supports life on the planet.
That there are those who prefer making money to protecting and promoting life is a disturbing idea to people and may be hard to accept.
The notion that it is suicidal may be hard for others to accept.
And we need to remember that successful advertisers have mastered the art of persuasion.
We each form our own opinions based on what we know. With strong differences and/or indications that the conclusions are important to the continuation of life, due diligence is needed to learn the facts and act accordingly.
There are many areas now where information and suggested actions are contrary to what is known and accepted previously. We are facing opportunities to modify our ways for the benefit of all, now and for generations to come. It may only require facing, accepting and moving past our discomfort.
Learning the truth puts us in a much better position to deal with it and ultimately to be more comfortable.

Summary:
Many are considering our fuel sources and concluding there might be better and different ways of using resources. There is resistance, however, for many reasons. A common one is discomfort. Whenever we experience discomfort it may be beneficial to examine why the feeling is present and to take steps to resolve it. This Newsletter combines a discussion of both matters. We can heal ourselves and our world with new thinking.
